Alan Tong Cup Boys under-18 novice eight

Awarded at Maadi (National Champs) since 2016 to the winner of the Boys under-18 novice eight.

Donated by the Tong brothers in the name of their father: Alan. All 3 of Alan's sons have had a life-long involvement in rowing, thanks to their father. The Tong brothers are currently coaching school crews in Auckland, Hamilton, and Wellington.

Bethlehem College Cup Girls under-16 quad

Craighead Diocesan School Cup Girls under-16 double

Awarded at Maadi (National Champs) since 2012 to the winner of the Girls under-16 double. Presented by Craighead Diocesan School in recognition of the school's achievements under coach Dean Milne.

Dawn Cup Girls under-18 four

Awarded at Maadi (National Champs) since 1980 to the winner of the Girls under-18 four. At the Maadi Regatta of 1980, held on the Wairoa River, a cup was donated by Noel Lynch for the Girls Under 19 Four. On finals day, Officials were unable to keep to time. By dark the Boys Under 17 Eight and the Girls Under 19 Four had not been rowed. These races were then scheduled to be held at 6:30 a.m. Sunday morning. Because of this, Noel Lynch and Enoka Macdonald decided that the trophy should be called the Dawn Cup. It was first won by Queen Charlotte College.

This trophy is awarded to the school that is awarded the most points in all 'A' finals in sweep oar events at Maadi. Points are awarded as follows: 1st = 5 points, 2nd = 3 points, 3rd = 1 point.

Fairfield Shield Girls under-17 eight

Awarded at Maadi (National Champs) to the winner of the Girls under-17 eight.

Francis Hill Memorial Cup Girls under-15 double

Awarded at Maadi (National Champs) since 2006 to the winner of the Girls under-15 double.

While watching the 2005 Maadi Mike Hill was so inspired by the results achieved by Twizel (possibly our smallest member school) that he decided to donate a trophy. The trophy is named in memory of Mike's brother Francis, who had a long involvement with school rowing particularly in the lower South Island.

Keith 'Hibbo' Hibberd Plate Girls under-18 lightweight double

Awarded at Maadi (National Champs) since 2012 to the winner of the Girls under-18 lightweight double.

Donated by Keith Hibberd, who coached Macleans for the previous 10 years. Keith's involvement with rowing dates back 50 years; first as a rower for Auckland Rowing Club for 20 years then coaching womens crews before coaching school crews. Keith started with BARA before coaching GLDW and then started coaching MACL.

Lawrence 'Jumbo' Jackson Cup Girls under-17 double

Awarded at Maadi (National Champs) since 2007 to the winner of the Girls under-17 double.

Donated by Dave and Sharon Williamson after Dave's Marlborough Girls College crews won gold and also came 7th in the event in 2006. The cup is named after Sharon's grandfather Jumbo who was a Picton Rowing Club redcoat winner and a 1932 Olympian who rowed in the eight at Los Angeles.

Leith Menzies Cup Boys under-16 single

Awarded at Maadi (National Champs) since 2011 to the winner of the Boys under-16 single. Donated by Leith Menzies

Leslie J. Saywood Challenge Cup Boys under-15 octuple

Awarded at Maadi (National Champs) since 2016 to the winner of the Boys under-15 Octuple. Present by Leslie Saywood, NZSSRA Life member, who championed the inclusion of octuples events for decades until they were added to the Championships programme in 2016.

Levin 75th Jubilee Cup Girls under-18 eight

Awarded at Maadi (National Champs) since 1981 to the winner of the Girls under-18 eight.

In 1981, the Maadi Regatta was held on Lake Horowhenua. That year the Levin Borough council was holding its 75th Jubilee. The Mayor, Jack Bolderson, decided that a fitting memorial would be a cup for the Girls Senior Eight. On the final day he presented the Cup to Wanganui Girls' College.

Maadi Cup Boys under-18 eight

Awarded at Maadi (National Champs) since 1947 to the winner of the Boys under-18 eight.

This is the Cup the New Zealand Secondary Schools Championship Regatta has taken its name from. Inscribed on the cup is the following:

This cup, the gift of Dr Youssef Bahgat of the Cairo Rowing Club, Egypt, was presented to the Maadi Camp Rowing Club as a token of friendship between members of the Cairo Rowing Club and "Kiwi" oarsmen of the Second NZEF following the winning of the Fryberg Cup by the New Zealand oarsmen in competition with members of the Cairo Rowing Club at a regatta on the Nile on the 20th November, 1943.

The Kiwi oarsmen of Maadi Camp Rowing Club won the regatta for the Freyberg Cup by 11 points to 6. However, they donated the trophy to the Cairo Rowing Club for future competition. In return Dr Bahgat presented the Kiwi oarsmen with the cup that was to become the Maadi Cup. At the conclusion of the war it was brought back to New Zealand where it named the Maadi Cup and presented to the NZARA (now the NZRA) for the annual eight-oared competition among the New Zealand Secondary Schools. The first race was held at Wanganui in 1947 and it was won by Mt. Albert Grammar.

Mark Meates Cup Boys under-15 double

Awarded at Maadi (National Champs) since 2010 to the winner of the Boys under-15 double.

Donated by St Bedes College to honour the achievements and ongoing involvement of Mark in rowing at the school and in the wider rowing community.

Mary Thomas Cup Girls under-16 single

Awarded at Maadi (National Champs) since 2014 to the winner of the Girls under-16 single.

Presented for the 2014 Maadi by Mary Thomas. Mary was in charge of ceremonial activities whenever Maadi was held at Ruataniwha and felt it was time to add a trophy of her own to the roster.

Maurice Jones Cup Boys under-18 double

Awarded at Maadi (National Champs) since 2007 to the winner of the Boys under-18 double.

Donated by the Otago Rowing Association to mark their (reluctant) acceptance of the resignation of Maurice Jones as their secretary. An icon of Otago rowing, involved either as a coxswain, coach or administrator for 70 years, Maurice now continues his involvment as a patron of Otago rowing. Maurice helped drive school rowing in Otago and is also an NZSSRA Life Member.

Noel Lynch Trophy Girls under-18 quad

Awarded at Maadi (National Champs) to the winner of the Boys under-17 four.

Rex Farrelly Trophy Girls under-18 lightweight four

Awarded at Maadi (National Champs) to the winner of the Girls under-18 lightweight four.

Roger Batley Cup Boys under-18 lightweight double

Awarded at Maadi (National Champs) since 2012 to the winner of the Boys under-18 lightweight double.

Donated by Alex Mudford and Matthew Duncan of STPC; winners of the inaugural race. The trophy is named after their coach.

Russell Baxter Memorial Cup Boys under-18 novice double

Awarded at Maadi (National Champs) since 2014 to the winner of the Boys under-18 novice double.

Presented by the Baxter family in memory of Russell's involvement with rowing and his love of Maadi. Russell was the person instrumental in introducing and developing the filming and broadcast of Maadi regattas. Russell died in October 2013.

Springbok Shield Boys under-18 four

Awarded at Maadi (National Champs) since 1965 to the winner of the Boys under-18 four.

In 1964 Cecil Purvis, who had an impressive record in rowing, athletics and boxing, was visiting South Africa. While there, he met up with Mr Silverhorne, who was in charge of youth rowing in Johannesburg. After a nights talking about rowing and sports and many drinks later, the Springbok Shield eventuated (at about 3:00 a.m.). The Shield is made from segments of all the woods from South Africa and was first rowed for in 1965 at Oriental Bay in Wellington. It was first won by Hamilton Boys' High School.

St Andrews College Cup Boys under-17 double

Awarded at Maadi (National Champs) since 2007 to the winner of the Boys under-17 double.

Donated by St Andrews College to mark the long involvement of the school with rowing and also for the support the Rector of St Andrews College, Harvey Rees-Thomas, has given to rowing at the school.

Star Trophy Champion school of the regatta

Awarded at Maadi (National Champs) since 1997 to the Champion school of the regatta.
